Together At Last

Sorry for the lengthy amount of time between editorials — I was in a skiing accident and suffered from a Grade 3 Concussion, so I have been having memory problems and I had to put the Sugar Quill and several other duties on hold. For a while it looked like the scar on my head might turn out rather lightening boltish, but unfortunately it currently just looked like a pink oval.

Some of my friends have been keeping me posted on Harry Potter news over the last month or so, and I have had plenty of time to ponder the recently released cover of book six, both American and British versions.

Although I doubt the lime and purple color scheme holds any real clues to the contents of ‘HBP,’ it is still the opinion of many fans that it is ‘the coolest color scheme yet.’ I am of the same mindset. If you disagree with the insignificance of the green, be prepared to explain the blue’s significance on OOTP.

There is one major substantial theme that was blatant in the covers.

For the entire Harry Potter series, Albus Dumbledore has been an omniscient, god-like character who never really actively partook in any of the epic action sequences until the very end of book five. Albus Dumbledore was only a part of Harry’s life through various actions that indirectly affected Harry. The extremity of this position was seen in the beginning of ‘Order of the Phoenix,’ when Harry could never even talk to his Headmaster.

At the end of book five, that all changed. For the first time, Albus Dumbledore showed the type of magical prowess that was alluded to through his dealings with the dark wizard Grindelwald, and through Voldemort’s immense fear of him. But at the climax of Harry’s fifth year, Dumbledore fought Lord Voldemort in an epic battle, and erased any doubts in the minds of his followers that he was at all senile.

For Harry Potter’s whole career at Hogwarts, his sole companions have been Ron and Hermione. As his tasks become increasingly dangerous, it would have seemed very strange if Dumbledore didn’t start actively participating in Harry’s personal battle with the Dark Lord.

Now that the covers have been released, it seems that these predictions are coming true. Dumbledore and Harry are undertaking at least two tasks together: one dealing with a pensieve, and one dealing with some sort of fire. It will be interesting to see Harry and Dumbledore acting outside of their Headmaster-Student relationship.

In totally unrelated news, Harry has apparently signed up to take Advanced Potions next year. He is well on his way to becoming an Auror. Signing off.
