1984 - Chapter 04: An Explanation of Time | | Author: | Daniels_Girl | | Genre: | General | | Rating: | G | | Score: | 4.84848 | | Story: | Harry stared in complete confusion. "Wha-…who...?" He hung his mouth, unable to bring it to a close. The familiar Dumbledore finally broke Harry's reign of stuttering. "Harry, we understand that you are confused about this,-" Harry cut him off with a scoff of befuddlement. "And we have decided that you would be old enough to handle this." he continued. The younger Dumbledore took over. "Harry, this is quite a serious matter. I had hoped that it wouldn't come to this, but you are old enough to know." He emphasized 'are' in agreement to his elder self, and then continued, "Why don't you sit down?" Harry slowly took a seat with eagerness written all over his face. Why would there be two Dumbledores? And perhaps they could explain all the weirdness that had happened in the last couple of weeks. "Harry, it is to my knowledge that you have been encountering problems with yourself in the past weeks. Correct?" Harry nodded and slowly brought his hand to his forehead, where his lightning bolt scar was once the resident of. "Yes, we figured that's the first thing that would go," said the older Dumbledore. "It's your biggest trait. Harry, what else has happened besides you losing your scar?" "Well, I was talking to Cho Chang, and the next second she didn't know who I was, like she totally forgot me. And-" He hesitated, he felt wrong admitting this to not only one Dumbledore, but two. "Well, Ginny and I kissed and she said-” he paused for a moment, “She said I had no soul, like it felt like I wasn't at all there." The Dumbledores just looked at each other with looks of complete belief and understanding. "Professor-s," he added the last 'S' after considering the situation, "What's happening to me?" It was the senior Dumbledore that spoke again. "Harry, the reason you are the chosen one, is because you were born." Harry squinted his eyes in thought. "What do you-?" "I have made a mistake," said the younger Dumbledore, “I tried to prevent this from happening by separating your parents. James and Lily did not get along when they attended Hogwarts. But it wasn't what it seemed. James was in love with Lily, and Lily adored James. Every week I brought her into my office and gave her potions to have her avoid James at all costs. If they were apart, then you would not have been born and the prophecy would not have been fulfilled. Lily had no remembrance of meeting with me and taking a potion, she continued to do so every week. In turn she thought she despised James. I am truly sorry, but for my mistake it is messing up the future child of the couple." "So, you kept my parents apart?" said Harry, his confusion contracting and his anger dilating. "Harry, we thought it was right to keep you from having this life," said Harry’s headmaster. "Yeah, but you're not only taking away the life I have, Albus, you're taking away my life completely." Dumbledore sat and admired the fact that Harry addressed him as Albus. It showed respect. Harry, however, was hurt and a little distorted. He sat with tears welling up in his eyes. There was so much going through his head. Anger started bubbling inside him. "How could you do this? Now what's going to happen to me?" "There is a way you could change this. If you go back in time, you may be able to get them back together." Harry turned to the youthful Dumbledore and said, "Why can't you just stop giving her the potion?" "The last portion of the drink was too strong, I'm afraid she will be in that state of mind until further notice. But if we do not get them back together in time, you will be erased from existence." Harry got up and looked at them in disgust. He then turned on his heel and left the office without another word to either of them. He made his way furiously to the common room. ‘How could he do this?’ he kept asking himself, ‘I trusted him.’ When he spat out the password and carried on into the common room, there was only one occupant. Ginny was sitting in Harry's favourite armchair near the fire. He stopped half way to the chair. He wasn't sure if he wanted to go over or if he just wanted to run up to his bed. She looked up at him with a comforting look. He was close to tears but told himself he couldn't cry in front of her. "Harry, come sit down." He hesitated and then slowly made his way over and sat on the arm rest of her chair. His hands were in his jean pockets and he simply stared into the fire. Ginny reached up and grabbed his arm. "Harry, what's wrong?" He didn't look at her right away but he started off and began to recall the story of the two Dumbledores and what would happen if he weren't to return in time. The more he thought of it the more it hurt. He tried so hard not to cry, but by the end of the story, he had minimal amounts of tears spilling over his eyelids. Ginny pulled him down into the space between her and the side of the chair. It was just big enough for the two of them if Harry was on a slant. He was lying on her shoulder still gazing uncontrollably into the fire. Ginny wrapped her arms around him. He tried to stop it but a few tears fell onto her shoulder. "Harry, it's going to be okay. I'll help you in whatever way I can." "You're right," said Harry slowly sitting up. "I'm sure it'll be okay. Thanks, Ginny." With the fire glowing in the background, Harry was still on Ginny's side. There was a moment when they stared deep into each other's eyes. They understood one another. Harry hadn't felt more comfortable since he was a baby. Still staring into her eyes, he slowly leant closer. His lips touched hers and sent a surge of energy throughout his body. There was such a connection. He started out slowly and gave her a passionate kiss. When they broke apart, they examined each other with pure love.
