1984 - Chapter 09: Fifth Marauder | | Author: | Daniels_Girl | | Genre: | General | | Rating: | G | | Score: | 4.87097 | | Story: | During the next class, Harry was appreciated for his outstanding Defence Against the Dark Arts knowledge and had no homework because of his amazing performance. After class, he snuck off to the one-eyed witch, where he met his dad and fellow Marauders. They all grinned menacingly at him and pushed him through the passage. They travelled through the passage for nearly half an hour. When they finally arrived at their destination, the Marauders gathered around Harry, looking at him with eagerness. James pulled out a vile that had been stashed in his pocket throughout the trip. The mixture inside the vile was bubbling as if it were boiling. It was a deep blue colour, with remnants of purple. Harry gazed, completely entranced, at the contents of the miniscule jar. James fiddled with it between his fingers for a few moments before turning to Harry and asking if he was ready to become an Animagus. Harry answered with a readily yes, and the job was well on its way. James rummaged around in a bag he had brought for an unknown object. When he pulled it out, Harry realized that it was a goblet that was glowing a vibrant orange. He then pulled out a small dish. He set it down on the creaking, wooden floor; pouring a generous amount of the potion into the dish and the remainders into the goblet. He then took his wand, took aim at Harry's hand and muttered 'Bloodario'. Blood seeped from every crevice of his palm, forming a puddle barely half the size of his hand. He flicked Harry's wrist and tipped his DNA into the dish. It fumed for a moment and then settled down. The other three Marauders sat and watched in awe, silence washed throughout the room. James made a small incision at the very bottom of his palm, almost at the wrist. Harry gasped from slight shock. James then took both of Harry's hands in his and squeezed tightly, so both the blood from their veins ran as one. The droplets from their clenched hands filtered into the goblet. It shot sparks left, right, and centre. James and the other three looked quite astonished. "It's never done that before." James said, enthralled with the results of the procedure. Nonetheless, James shook it off and continued with the steps to becoming an illegal Animagus. Once the potion received all the blood it required, James released Harry's hand and pulled out his wand again. "No, no James, Harry has to do it." Sirius corrected. "Oh right! Harry, fish out your wand." Harry did as he was told. When he had it at the ready, James told Harry the incantation. "Now, say 'Alphamagus', tap your heart, then do this." He made a half circle motion in the air, then ended with a tap on his head. Harry repeated the words and mimicked the scene. As he lowered his wand, fibres such as dandruff and dust particles started levitating over his head. They all formed into a part of the animal that ran within Harry's soul. A feather was pieced together as a halo above Harry's head. When it was finally a full feather, Wormtail gasped with astonishment. "It's a Phoenix feather!" Harry looked up, feeling curious and excited. The feather was now fluttering down before him. It landed in the dish and dissolved with a wisp. James then took the goblet and dish, and mixed them together. All of the original substance was contained in the goblet now. The room then illuminated with an emerald green light, influenced by the blazing goblet. As the flames died down, James told Harry to drink. A little on the edge, he reached out and took hold of the goblet. He raised the goblet to his lips and perused. As the drink ran down his throat, it seeped through every bit of him, and a cool chill ran through every vein. He ended up coughing the last bit down, but it managed to find its way. When he was finished, he placed the goblet down on the floor once again. "Now Harry, this may take up to a month to get put into place. It took me three weeks, Sirius two and a half, and well…Peter, almost six." "Why does it take so long?" Harry questioned. "It's a matter of the mind. Depends how strongly you want it, and how strong minded you are." James answered matter-of-factly. "It also depends on the blood sometimes." Sirius added, but it was all he managed to say on that fact, because at that moment he was cut off by an abrupt noise from Lupin. Harry and the others quickly shifted their heads; he was sprouting fur throughout his whole body. He was shaking profoundly. All that was issuing from his mouth was grunts and groans. Harry felt fear rise in his throat. He'd seen this done before, in his third year. Remus Lupin the werewolf. He was transforming. When Harry turned to catch someone else's eye, the same eyes he'd seen moments ago had vanished. Now as a full werewolf stood before him, he looked at the Marauders; Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs. Lupin stood tall, he reared on his hind legs. He raised his arm and smacked Prongs out of the way. Harry stood shaking, immobile with his feet rooted through trepidation. Padfoot started growling, baring his teeth all the while. Harry just started thinking how much safer he would feel if he had been a Phoenix at the moment. How he felt so vulnerable compared to the other beings in the room. Harry was cowering behind Padfoot, which Harry should have noticed - but didn't under the cir[censored]tances- was much younger looking. Lupin inched closer, snarling the whole time. He was eyeing Sirius as though he were dinner. He then suddenly attacked Sirius, who yelped in pain. Lupin then tossed him aside, and Padfoot lay immobile. Lupin was then transfixed with the site of Harry. Harry closed his eyes, wishing he were in any other state than this. When he re opened them, he wasn't seeing through the same range of vision he was only moments ago. He looked down at his body. It was fiery gold. Remus pounced at Harry, and without much consideration, Harry took to the air. Moony groped the air for the phoenix above his head. Lupin turned and raced for the door. Harry then turned round to the others and noticed that they were all changing back. (Wormtail re-emerging from under a nearby dresser.) Once they were all to their normal states, they all stared completely flabbergasted at Harry. He didn't know how to get back to his original body, so he decided to picture himself. And with luck, he started shooting upwards and he grasped altitude. "How the- what the- when?" Sirius stammered. To take the focus off of him and the recent sudden occurrence, Harry asked if they should follow Lupin. They nodded in agreement and stormed out the door. As they raced down the passage, Sirius insisted to bring up the fact again. "I mean, it took me two weeks, and that was good time! But like seven and a half minutes?!" "I don't know how it happened." Harry said truthfully. "You said that it had to do with blood? Well maybe me and James get along well?" Harry knew very well that it wasn't just that. When they reached the outdoors, they heard a low howl issuing from the dark forest. They looked at each other then started moulding into their Animagus. As Harry sprouted wings on either side of him, he took flight, picking up Wormtail as he did. As much as he didn't want to, he had to. They followed the source of the noise and when they arrived at the scene they found a human boy around the age of 16 lying there, immobile. Harry didn't know if it was part of the routine or if Lupin was injured. James and Sirius changed back and turned him over. He was bleeding from a fraction on his head. "Lupin?" Sirius asked, bending down, not sounding too concerned. But when he didn't answer or give any indication of his well being, he took it to a more serious matter. "Remus?" James now said, sounding a little more anxious. Lupin's head lolled around as James shook him slightly. Harry now took the initiative. He dropped Wormtail without a care then glided and gracefully landed on Lupin. Tears welled up in his eyes; they poured over his bottom eyelid and landed on Lupins injury. It cleared up instantly. "Harry, could you take him to the hospital wing?" James asked. Harry agreed and picked him up with his immense strength. When he got him there, Dumbledore was sitting in the wing as if he were waiting. Harry got a bad feeling in the pit of his stomach. What if Dumbledore got angry with Harry because he became an illegal Animagus? Harry laid Remus down carefully. He then jumped off the bed and tried to exit the premises. "Harry, stay a while." Harry froze. He then turned around. Dumbledore was on his feet now. Harry then returned to his original state, and looked into Dumbledore's eyes, completely ashamed. Harry was wondering how he knew, when Dumbledore answered his unasked question. "Only someone with such a strong soul could have a phoenix as an Animagus form. It was your father's blood, wasn't it?" Harry nodded, waiting for Dumbledore to lose it. He didn't. "With your mother’s love running through you, and your father's blood now in your soul, you've got a special bond. It's safe to say you're less helpless when it comes to Voldemort. "Now, I suggest that you carry on to bed. You've had a long day and need your rest for tomorrow." He gave Harry a slightly pitying look, and smiled. "Good night, Professor."
