WB Purposely Withholding Release Date of Half-Blood Prince DVD

Posted By gnzlsgrl5 on 09-14-09 @ 11:43 AM - 4 comments - Link
Over the last few weeks, there have been many different reports as to when HBP will be released to DVD. Home Media Magazine is saying that this confusion of release dates is because WB feels that by keeping the release date unknown (but later on in the year) it will increases sales because they think that holiday shoppers will be doing a lot of last minute shopping. Possibly around Christmas then for a release? We'll keep you posted as to when HBP will be released on DVD.

HBP sees drop-off in ticket sales

Posted By Marc on 07-29-09 @ 1:44 PM - 21 comments - Link
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince experienced a significant drop-off in ticket sales this past weekend and, in fact, was actually overtaken at the box office by the new animated movie G-Force. Of course, a second weekend fall in sales is standard fare with blockbusters such as the HP series, and it's not necessarily a discouraging sign for the film's future this summer when looked at in greater context.

Through the weekend, HBP had earned more money than its predecessor, Order of the Phoenix (at $221 million domestically), and had set a new record for the series by surpassing $400 million in sales globally. So despite a somewhat less successful second weekend than may have been hoped for, HBP is still doing quite well overall.

As some may know, advanced ticket sales for the Transformers sequel were huge, and now The Hollywood Reporter says that ticket sales for Half-Blood Prince are doing even better: Advance sales of "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" are outpacing those of current box-office champ "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" and of 2007's "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" at a similar point in their sales cycles. Eight days before its July 15 opening, "Prince" accounted for 65 percent of daily ticket sales, online ticketer Fandango said Tuesday.

Half-Blood Prince predicted to make $800M to $1B

Posted By Rares on 07-09-09 @ 11:15 AM - 3 comments - Link
Reuters has published a new article looking at Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince's box office potential: The five movies released so far have grossed $4.5 billion in ticket sales, and box office experts see little reason to doubt that the sixth installment will fall within the $800 million to $1 billion range, a huge amount for a single film.

"This is just a remarkable franchise that has consistently drawn blockbuster numbers each time out, and it is hard to imagine this picture not continuing that trend," said Brandon Gray, president of tracking firm Box Office Mojo.

Pent-up demand is expected to ensure a big opening in the key North American market and in countries like Britain, after which word-of-mouth will be a key factor. The fact that the Potter story is now complete may mean some fans lose interest, but U.S. advance online ticket sales look strong, according to MovieTickets.com

Evanna Lynch talks Luna in Half-Blood Prince

Posted By Rares on 06-12-09 @ 2:06 PM - 3 comments - Link
Evanna Lynch, Luna Lovegood in the Potter series, talked with IrishCentral about her character and her role in the upcoming movie, Half-Blood Prince.

“Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” is without doubt the darkest chapter of the whole J.K. Rowling series, and in it Luna remains steadfast as both a defender of the wizarding world and as a comfort to Harry in his darkest hour. Lynch says the new film remains faithful to the book and her character.

“Luna seems small and young and not noted for being brave, and yet she is. She’s really calm though, she doesn’t get surprised by anything, and she accepts people’s differences,” Lynch says.

“In fact J.K. Rowling told me as a character she’s the most adjusted to the idea of death in the whole series. That cuts out a lot of fear for her. She tries to impress it on Harry. She’ll take it as it comes.”

Evanna also talked about her aspirations for performing in London's West End, the lessons she has learned and about a potential Dumbledore-Luna relationship. Check the entire interview here

Rupert Grint talks about the 'Half Blood Prince'

    Posted By Rodrigo on 05-03-09 @ 5:07 PM - 7 comments - Link
Rupert Grint was interviewed by WizardUniverse, where he spoke about the making of Half-Blood Prince, the decade he has spent as part of the franchise and his plans for his post-Potter life.
How would you say that Ron has evolved over the course of these films? And how would you say you yourself have you changed as an actor?
GRINT: It just sort of happens. The first three films really do feel like a different person. I think Ron is more grown up throughout the films... We see him protect his sister, and we see brotherly stuff that he does in the sixth one.

How does it feel being so close to the end of Harry Potter, a thing that's been such a part of your life for so long?
GRINT: It's going to be weird, I think. It hasn't sunk in yet that this is the last one and that we'll never come back to do this. It'll be ten years by the time we finish. It's going to be quite sad I think. I'll miss it because I have really enjoyed it and the people I've met and it's just been great. But I think seven's enough, really.

The rest of Rupert's interview can be read here, along with Daniel's and Emma's previously published interviews.

    New Harry and Dumbledore picture

    Posted By Rodrigo on 05-02-09 @ 11:26 AM - 9 comments - Link
The LA Times has published a new picture showing Harry and Dumbledore and an article on Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince including brief comments from Daniel, Emma and Rupert on filming the movie.
"You would think that, but truly every film is different, and this time around the refreshing aspect was the adolescent romantic core of this film, which should be absolutely charming and very funny," Radcliffe said during a break from shooting. "So from that point of view, it is quite a different film, because we haven't had anything that has had this sort of light and warm and funny a core before."

Emma Watson talks 'Half Blood Prince'

    Posted By Rodrigo on 04-30-09 @ 8:47 AM - 8 comments - Link
Emma Watson was recently interviewed by WizardUniverse.com where spoke about her experience filiming Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince.
What is Hermione's big moment and big sequence in the sixth film?
WATSON: There's this mean girl called Lavender who has a bit of a crush on Ron. It's leaked in the beginning of the film that Hermione and Ron are finally going to get it together, and then she steps in. Hermione is sensitive and quite mean, really. And it's very much about how she sort of despises Lavender. Not really because she's taken Ron away, but because she's kind of the opposite of Hermione. So it's very comic and also quite sad for her. It's very Ron based, her part.

Do you think the fans of the book will find "Half-Blood Prince" to be a faithful adaptation?
I hope so. I think we've stuck as close as we possibly can without making a ten-hour movie. We've never had that complaint before, and I personally am such a big fan of the books. I've read them each of them three or four times so I think that's a really good focus for us.

The rest of the interview can be read here.
